Tell us the origin story of your business. What brought you to where you are today?
My first career was modeling. I moved to NYC when I was 17 for a modeling contract. After constant pressure to lose weight and become the ultra-thin model idealized by the media, I left the unhealthy lifestyle behind and embarked on a journey to define beauty on my own terms.
I studied everything from Buddhist philosophy to neuroscience—traveling to more than 40 countries to uncover creative and unconventional ways to live a healthy life. Today, I have more than a decade of teaching experience at top universities in mind-body medicine and holistic health.
As my students completed their training in holistic health, yoga, nutrition, massage and other modalities, they reached out to me for guidance about how to create a career that they love. I developed the Women in Wellness community to teach them how to build purposeful and profitable holistic businesses. I am passionate about empowering women of all ages to achieve their dreams.
What’s the most fulfilling part of what you currently do (since you’re working on multiple projects, with many different kinds of people and in many areas)?
The most fulfilling part of my work is seeing the success of my clients and students. It is a gift to be able to uplift others, help them break through blocks and go beyond their self-imposed limitations.
What does living a W.E.L.L. life mean to you?
Living a W.E.L.L. life means having a holistic lifestyle that supports my mind, body and spirit. This includes healthy relationships, work that I love, activities that are fun and playful. For example, I take improv classes once a week, go sailing on weekends and surround myself with positive people. I also make choices that are good for my body like drinking lots of water and eating a mostly-vegetarian diet. All of these choices contribute to a W.E.L.L. life.
What gets you up in the morning?
My cat demanding to be fed gets me up in the morning! She is a loud mouth! LOL. Once I start the day, my motivation is serve my clients and students with the best possible resources, information and support.
If you could share one piece of advice for women struggling in their careers, what would it be?
If there is struggle, then you have to find ease. Change your mindset or change your situation. Whenever we struggle, we are less productive, less creative and less healthy then when we are in the FLOW.
I am SO excited to meet all of the beautiful guests and speakers. I can’t wait to indulge in a weekend of wellness!
What does #restisthenewhustle mean to you?
Makes me think of the Sleep Revolution (Arianna Huffington) and the new movement to bring self-care to the forefront of our lifestyle. I think it’s awesome and long overdue!
